THE

STORY

Jamarly was born from a journey to Antigua and a question of belonging. Inspired by the Eastern Caribbean dollar and by the absence of Guadeloupe and Martinique, two French Caribbean islands, from that shared currency, the work imagines another possibility: the Madras Dollars, a symbolic currency created to reconnect French- and English-speaking Caribbean islands. Broken chains and banknotes become symbols of crossing inherited borders and reclaiming a shared Caribbean identity.
